Local Country/State Sales TAX or VAT

When buying from a seller in your local country, you may be charged sales tax or VAT depending on your country’s requirements for online purchases.

In the United Kingdom (UK), European Union (EU) and select other regions, VAT is a common form of taxation. However, VAT goes by different names in different countries and regions. For example, in Japan, it is known as the Consumption Tax (JCT), while in Canada, it is called the Goods and Services Tax (GST) or the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST). In the United States, certain states have their own versions of VAT, such as the State Sales Tax (SST), Provincial Sales Tax (PST), Retail Sales Tax (RST), and Quebec Sales Tax (QST).

If you have ever made a purchase, whether it's Health & Beauty items or electronics, you may have noticed that there are often additional charges added to your bill. These charges are known as local tax charges, and they can vary depending on where you are making your purchase. In this article, we will explain what they are, how they are calculated, and why they are necessary.

What are Local Tax Charges?
Local tax charges are additional fees that are added to the price of a purchase in order to support local government services and infrastructure. These taxes are imposed by counties, and other local jurisdictions, and they are typically calculated as a percentage of the total purchase price. The specific tax rate can vary depending on the location, with some areas having higher tax rates than others.

How are Local Tax Charges Calculated?
Local tax charges are typically calculated based on the total purchase price of an item. For example, if you are buying a $£100 item and the local tax rate is 8%, you would pay an additional $£8 in local tax charges.
