Jewellery & Watches Policy
When listing jewellery for sale, it's important that you clearly explain all the details about what you are selling, buyers will have a better understanding of your jeweller if you clearly describe the details. Depending on the jewellery type will depend on the information you need to provide.
We do not allow any type of jewellery (diamonds, gemstones and metals) from countries with civil conflict or involvement with any criminal activity – it's prohibited.
We do not allow Gemstones, Diamonds and Fine Metals that do not comply with the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme.
You must also follow our policies and all laws and regulations in the county/state you sell in and the countries/state you post/ship to.
If you are unsure about the specific information you need to follow in your local country/state, then we encourage you to consult your legal counsel for any concerns about the laws and regulations concerning the jewellery you intend to sell.
Note: There’s a ban on exporting precious and semi-precious stones, gold and silver items and other luxury goods to North Korea or Syria. however, North Korea, Syria and other countries do not have access to BNSBids. refer to our Embargo Items, Countries & Restrictions policy for more information
Items must meet all the requirements of Hallmarking Act 1973 for any specific country/state.
You should ensure that your item complies with our hazardous materials policy and all applicable legal requirements related hazardous materials.
Title:
You must state the creation method including the gemstone name in the title.
The creation method will be one of the following:
- Natural Created (title should state it's natural created)
- Natural Created but has been treated (title should state thats its treated)
- Lab-created (title should state its lab-created and the gemstone name)
- Simulated – (State the material brand or name in the title)
- Simulated gemstones should be listed in our fashion categories.
Diamonds;
- If listing actual Diamond(s) you must state in the title and the creation method.
- Before making any claims about diamonds you should have it certified by a professional.
- If your diamond is not an actual diamond (or it's not been certified by a professional) it should be listed in the fashion jewellery categories.
- You must not use the term diamond in your title if it's not an actual diamond.
Short Description: You can use the short description field, this will show under the title. (Optional)
This is good to show all the colours, sizes, and other details to help attract buyers
Description:
You must describe the gemstones or diamonds clearly including the creation method in the description.
- Natural Created (State in the description that it's naturally created)
- Lab-created (State in the description its lab-created and the gemstone name – explain the materials it's created from)
- Simulated – ( State in the description it's Simulated and the material brand or name )
- Simulated gemstones should be listed in our fashion categories.
If the gemstone or diamond has been treated you must also include the details about the treatment such as:
- Treatment type.
- How long the treatment will last.
- If the gemstone has lost any value because of the treatment.
- Care requirements for the gemstone.
- And other relevant information.
Diamond:
- Diamonds should have a certificate or grading report. You can't list your diamond(s) as actual diamond(s) without a certificate or grading report from a certified professional.
- Your diamond should have a serial number carved into the jewellery, you could as your local jeweller to check out the serial number.
There is a few very important pieces of information that the certificates hold, which include:
- The diamond’s quality.
- Cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight.
- The diamond dimensions.
- It establishes who is the diamond’s owner.
- It confirms the diamond’s authenticity.
When diamonds have been analysed and professionally certified you will receive proper certifications that state your diamond(s) are genuine.
You must include this certification in your listing. you can do this by taking a clear picture and including it with pictures of the diamonds.
Rough Diamonds:
- All rough diamonds must be listed in the loose diamonds and gemstones category.
- When listing Rough diamonds you must state “rough diamond” in your title, description and select the required specifics.
- You must follow the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme and you are required to have a Kimberley Process Certificate.
- The Kimberley Process certificate must be included in the listing; you can do this by taking a clear picture and including it with the picture of the diamonds.
- If you can't provide the Kimberley Process certificate – you must not list rough diamonds on BNSBid.
To export rough diamonds:
- You need a certificate to export rough diamonds. If you try to import or export them outside of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, law enforcement will seize the diamonds.
- The Kimberley Process certificate must be included in the listing; you can do this by taking a clear picture and including it with pictures of the diamonds.
Unidentified Gemstone:
- If you do not know the creation method of the gemstone or the grade of the gemstone or if treatment has been used on the gemstone, you should have it certified by a professional.
- Unidentified gemstones should be listed in the fashion jewellery categories only.
Fine Jewellery:
Fine jewellery is composed primarily of fine materials.
- If the base metal of the Jewellery is gold, silver or a platinum then its considered fine Jewellery
- Jewellery with a gemstone - both the metal and main gemstone must be made from fine materials.
- Solid metal jewellery that is Gold, silver and platinum or if the jewellery is plated with gold, silver, platinum and palladium are considered fine jewellery
- For plated jewellery, the word “plated” must follow the name of the base metal, as in “gold-plated brass
Fashion Jewellery:
All Fashion Jewellery should be listed in our Fashion Jewellery categories only.
- If the base metal of the Jewellery is not gold, silver or a platinum then its considered fashion Jewellery,
- If the metal of the Jewellery is plated with gold, silver or platinum then it's considered fashion Jewellery.
- Simulated gemstones are also considered fashion jewellery
Loose beads:
Loose beads can only be listed in the Loose Beads category.
Text, Images, Video Content Requirements:
- The information you provide must accurately represent the item that is for sale.
- When listing genuine jewellery, such as fine jewellery the image must show Identification Stamp or Serial/Model numbers.

Item Specifics:
You must include the specifics about the jewellery such as the following:
- Colour, Stone Creation, Country/Region of Manufacture, Material, Gender, Size ,Certification.
Variations:
- You can include variations of the jewellery, variations will be automatically created based on your selected item specifics as mentioned above.
Delivery:
- If allowing the buyer to collect you must state this in your shipping details field on the listing page.
- If you offer delivery then include information about the delivery such as handling time, delivery times. we recommend using Track and Trace, it's the best option to include as part of your delivery strategy.
International shipping:
- If you ship Internationally you must let the buyer know the number of days this will take
- You must let the buyer know about any Import duties, taxes and other charges.
- If you send jewellery using a courier or royal mail, we recommend using Track and Trace, it's the best option to include as part of your delivery strategy.
Returns Policy:
- All seller are required to include a returns policy, should the buyer receive the wrong item, or its not as described, you must give the buyer a full refund.
- In most cases you are required to give the buyer a full refund, Consumer Rights Act in your country/state.
Activity that doesn't follow this policy may result in action being taken with applicable laws, and depending on the activity we may be required by law to report the activity.
If we find your listing or your listing is reported we will investigate and remove the listing. Depending on your activity we may give a warning or suspend your account.
