Hazardous Materials Policy

Most hazardous and safety products cannot be listed on BNSBids.

Some types of hazardous and safety products may be legally allowed, for those that are allowed,

Sellers are responsible for compliance with all local and international laws associated with hazardous materials or equipment that may contain hazardous materials.
Since each country has its own regulations governing the delivery and hazardous materials, seller are responsible for compliance with all laws associated with the sale of hazardous materials in the county/state you sell in and any countries/state you ship to.

sellers are fully responsible to make sure all hazardous and safety products must have Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation ((EC) No 1272/2008) sellers are required to display the product’s hazard pictogram, statement and signal word within the listing.

If the material can be sent by standard postage services and is not prohibited by local laws or regulations in your country/state then it's allowed on BNSBids.

Not all delivery providers allow hazardous materials or equipment that may contain hazardous materials to be delivered, some delivery providers allow only strict weight and types of hazardous materials or equipment that may contain hazardous materials, it's important that sellers check with them before-hand. If specific postage restrictions are required by the delivery provider, these must be stated in the item description.

Product certification marks on the product must show in the images and be stated in the listing description.
Product certification marks are symbols or logos that indicate a product has met certain standards or requirements set forth by a regulatory body or organisation. These marks serve as a stamp of approval, assuring consumers that the product has undergone rigorous testing and meets specific quality and safety criteria.

Age verification on delivery:

  • A seller should have procedures in place to check age verification at the point of delivery, this ensures their delivery drivers request valid proof of age to confirm that the purchaser of the hazardous materials or equipment that may contain hazardous materials is over the minimum age to buy, and take delivery of, the product in question.

It should be noted that third-party couriers may not accept responsibility for age verification. However, there are requirements for delivery companies in certain circumstances. contact your chosen courier and discuss the situation relating to your hazardous materials or equipment that may contain hazardous materials.



The Following Examples Are Alowed:

Refrigerants contained within a vehicle or household appliance.
Empty fire extinguishers or empty fire extinguisher grenades
Fire extinguishers that don't contain carbon tetrachloride.
List any information on how to use a fire extinguisher.
Information on how to use pesticides.
Warning badges or warning signs for radiation or radioactive material.
Class 1 or 2 handheld lasers that are 1 milliwatt in power or less and disco lasers.
Geiger counters.
Gunsights or watches that contain a trace amount of radioactive material.
Natural or samples that have a trace amount of radioactivity. (description must include the amount of radioactivity)




The following Examples Are Restricted:

Legally permitted chemicals e.g. inks, acetone, paints, cleaning products, oils, and glues can be listed if; The product is to be transported safely and in accordance with any chemical legislation and any of the carrier’s transport policies i.e. compliant packaging and labeling to UK/EU standards. Sellers in other countries must follow their chemical legislation and any of the carrier’s transport policies i.e. compliant packaging and labeling

Nitro fuel for remote-controlled vehicles.
Information is given to the buyer regarding the safe use of the product.
Dummy fireworks are allowed but must not have any combustible components.
Labels of fireworks that are no longer attached to any firework itself.
Model rockets that are not fitted with an engine.
Pyrotechnic devices, such as control devices, launchers, or tubes that have no combustible materials.
For fire extinguishers that are “Antique”, the listing must state what substance the fire extinguisher is filled with, if it's empty, you must still state it's empty in your listing description.

Approved pesticide products are allowed only if:
  • The original storage container or original packaging, supplied by an approved holder for that pesticide is unopened and un-tampered with.
  • Pesticide products have been approved for use by the relevant authorities.
  • The pesticide has not been officially restricted, suspended, or canceled.
  • The pesticide is registered by the PSD or HSE or if in Ireland, the PCS if required.
  • The pesticide is correctly labeled and must display the correct instructions for use.
  • The seller and buyer have a certificate of competence with respect to pesticides for agricultural use.
  • Sellers must state in their listing description that they will comply with any applicable laws, and regulations as well as ensure that the bidder, buyer satisfies all applicable regulations
Collectible pesticide containers or devices are allowed only if:
  • The container or device is empty and cleaned of any chemicals.
  • The seller must include this information in the listing description.
Magnets that are small in size must be listed in our Business & Industrial > Fasteners & Hardware > "Magnets" category
Smoke or carbon monoxide detectors must be from one of the approved brands and must be New only
lighters may be listed, but only if they are equipped with a child-resistant mechanism.
Sellers can sell new or used hoverboards or self-balancing scooters that meet safety standards.
Approved Refrigerants that comply with local country/state laws and regulations, this include: Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning equipment or other equipment that include refrigerants.

    Baby and Toddler Cots:

    • All cots sold, even if second-hand, must comply with strict mandatory safety standards relating to cots, Sellers must state in their description that the cot meets those safety standards.

    Shipping Baby and Toddler Cots to countries/states outside your local country/state is not recommended, seller should check safety standards for those countries/state before offering to ship to those countries/state.

    Child Car Seat or Booster Seat and Replacement Parts:

    • We allow the listing of NEW Baby and Toddler Car Safety Seats only.
    • Baby and Toddler Car Safety Seats Replacement parts must also be NEW only.

      Sellers must state in their description that the Baby and Toddler Car Safety Seats or Replacement Parts meets those safety standards.

      Shipping Child Car Seat or Booster Seat and Replacement Parts to countries/states outside your local country/state is not recommended, seller should check safety standards for those countries/state before offering to ship to those countries/state.



      The following Examples Are Prohibited:

      Vehicle airbags: that have been Used or New Pre-Installed in a vehicle is strictly prohibited.
      Jewelry containing nickel.
      Benzene.
      Lead-based paints.
      Azo-colourants or azodyes.
      Asbestos and items containing any asbestos.
      Potassium chlorate.
      Potassium perchlorate.
      Ammonium nitrate.

      Products that contain traces of mercury such as:
      • Thermometers.
      • Manometers.
      • Barometers.
      • Sphygmomanometers.

        Carcinogenic, mutagenic, or repro-toxic substance (category 1 or 2) in substances or mixtures sold to the general public.

        Aerial bombs.
        Bottle rockets.
        Caps for toy guns.
        Chasers.
        Explosive fuses.
        Day-glo bombs.
        Black powder.
        Booby traps.
        Smoke bombs.
        Skyrockets.
        Nitro poppers.
        Firework kits.
        Firecrackers.
        Roman candles.
        Party poppers.
        Fountains.
        Skyrockets.
        Smoke balls.
        Sparklers.
        Sparks.
        Snappers.
        Flash paper.
        Torpedoes.
        Flares both projectile and road flares.
        Gas Cylinders and/ or Fuel Cans filled or partly filled containing any of the following compressed gases/ fuel are Prohibited for safety reasons:
        Ammonia.
        Acetylene.
        Carbon Monoxide.
        Chlorine.
        Diesel.
        Hydrogen.
        Petrol / Gasoline.
        Red phosphorous.
        Sulfur Dioxide.
        Thermite.
        Used oils such as: cooking oils, engine oils, gear oils.
        Fire extinguishers that contain carbon tetrachloride.
        Smoke or carbon monoxide detectors that are unbranded and unsafe of are not allowed.
        Used or pre-installed Smoke or carbon monoxide detectors are not allowed.
        Brand name or items described as freon.
        Suspended, cancelled, or restricted pesticides.
        Pesticides where the packaging/container has been opened or tampered with.
        Unregistered pesticide products that have not been approved for sale or use in the UK.
        No atomic or nuclear blast items.
        Nuclear materials.
        Radium.
        Radioactive waste or contaminated materials.
        Tritium in large amounts.
        Deployed airbags and safety belt pre-tensioners.
        Alkaline manganese batteries, zinc-carbon batteries, and mercuric oxide button batteries.
        Giant lighters.
        Novelty lighters
        Lighters that do not have a safety mechanism
        Certain products containing PFAS. for example, PFAS containing food packaging items in California and PFAS containing carpets, rugs, and fabric treatments in Maine
        Products recalled by a manufacturer or government agency
        Products where the sale of the product is prohibited by law or regulation
        Products that pose a health or safety hazard as specified by any government agency
        Products that don't comply with product safety laws
        Strike away matches are not allowed
        Toy magnets with small pieces that can be swallowed are not allowed
        18650 batteries are not for selling individual due to safety concerns. They must be pre-installed in the item first as they can be hazardous when handled, transported, stored, or charged.
        Products with easily accessible button batteries are unsafe as they can be swallowed, causing health issues or death.         Used car seats is strictly prohibited.
        Used Baby and toddler cots with any damage or with missing part is strictly prohibited.
        Used baby and toddler cots mattress.
